At Glenhouse, we believe in the power of creative expression to enhance spaces and experiences. Our Art & Crafts Initiative establishes a curated platform for local artists and makers to showcase their talents within our historic walls.
More than merely displaying artwork, our initiative forms meaningful connections between Aberdeen's creative community and appreciative audiences. Artists selected for exhibition benefit from exposure in a premium setting at 201 Union Street, the very heart of Aberdeen, where their work becomes part of the Glenhouse experience.
Our gallery currently showcases works from local Aberdeen artists whose unique styles and perspectives capture the essence of the northeastern Scottish landscape and heritage. Each piece resonates with the architectural character of our space while introducing contemporary creative voices to our guests.
The current exhibition runs through the end of the month, providing a perfect complement to the dining experience and offering guests the opportunity to engage with Aberdeen's vibrant arts community.
The artworks on display are by the Forecourt Art Group, a collective with over seventy years of artistic history in the north-east of Scotland. Founded by professional artists including Eric Auld, Bill Baxter, Bill Ord and Donny Buyers, the group later welcomed amateur artists who shared the same commitment to exhibiting work in public spaces.
Alongside the paintings, the artists have shared archival photographs and personal background material from the group’s early years, offering a quiet insight into its origins. This exhibition at Social Monkey continues the group’s long-standing tradition of bringing art into everyday settings.
